What are you Testing?
There are several links between your PC and the Internet.
Typical Corporate Office Scenario
- Your PC connects through an Ethernet LAN to your Internet server which
typically runs Linux or Windows NT/2000.
- Your server then connects to one of the ZOL routers in Eastgate,
Harare. This connection is either via radio, leased line or
dial-up. Even if you connect in Bulawayo or Mutare, your connection
still ends up in Eastgate, Harare.
- ZOL has several servers in Eastgate from which you can download your mail
and files.
- The ZOL router also connects to the Internet via TelOne and direct
satellite to the USA.
The picutre below shows this setup:

Single User Scenario
If you are dialing into ZOL as a single user on your PC or laptop, there is
obviously no LAN involved. Therefore you connect directly to the ZOL
router whether you are in Harare, Bulawayo or Mutare.
Tests
The two most important links to test are the one from your office or PC to
ZOL and then the one from ZOL to the Internet. This is represented by TEST
1 and TEST 2 in the above diagram.
